I was drawn to the word ‘avodah’ which I discovered originates from the root word ‘Avad’ in Hebrew and can be translated to mean – work, worship and service in English . The best way to summarize avodah is the following quote from William Perkins “The main end of our lives…is to serve God (worship) in the serving of men (service) in the works of our calling (work).” Work is not only a necessary part of life, it is also a form of service to the world and a way to build community.
